Taiwan-Japan Circular Economy Forum Delegation Visits the AMITA Group -Exchanging views on resource circulation-

On June 30, 2026, the Taiwan-Japan Circular Economy Forum Japan Visit Delegation (hereinafter "the Delegation"), a 20-member group from Taiwan, visited the AMITA Group's Tokyo office as part of a bilateral exchange initiative. The Delegation was led by Juu-En Chang, President of the Resource Circulation Industry Booster Association, and included Ying-Ying Lai, Director General of the Resource Circulation Administration under Taiwan's Ministry of Environment (the central government body equivalent to Japan's Ministry of the Environment), alongside representatives from industry, government, and academia. The visit sought to deepen the Delegation's understanding of Japan's approaches to resource circulation and high-value-added recycling, and to explore opportunities for future policy dialogue and business collaboration between the two nations. At the meeting, the AMITA Group briefed the Delegation on ZERO I--its new smart plant, which opened on July 9, 2026, following the visit--and both sides exchanged views on advancing resource circulation between Japan and Taiwan.

About ZERO I: A smart plant that fuses the AMITA Group's proprietary information compilation capability--evolved through generative AI and other advanced technologies--with enhanced circular materials production functions delivered by state-of-the-art equipment.

Topics of the day

  1. An introduction to the AMITA Group
  2. A presentation of ZERO I, the smart plant powered by generative AI and automation technologies
  3. An overview of the AMITA Group's business operations outside Japan and proposals for Japan-Taiwan resource circulation
  4. An exchange of views on resource circulation between Japan and Taiwan

Highlights of the day

In June 2026, Taiwan promulgated the Resource Circulation Promotion Act, which centers on full-lifecycle product management--part of the country's accelerating policy shift toward a circular economy. Sharing common structural challenges such as scarce underground resources, dependence on imported energy, and labor shortages from a declining birthrate and aging population, the two sides engaged in a lively exchange of questions and views, including:

  • Questions from industry representatives working on AI-based automation regarding the analytics and sensing technologies used in ZERO I
  • The potential for Japan-Taiwan collaboration in advancing resource circulation in industries such as the chip industry, drawing on each side's strengths
  • Strong interest in the AMITA Group's end-to-end resource-recycling business, including its cement alternative materials and fuels operations
  • Shared resonance--as two nations within the Chinese-character cultural sphere--for the philosophy of Bai Gui in the Shiji (Records of the Grand Historian), "When others discard, I take; when others take, I give," which participants recognized as aligned with the principles of the circular economy

Looking ahead

The AMITA Group has long maintained ties with Taiwan and, over many years of circular materials trading and related activities, has worked to build and expand the Japan-Taiwan resource circulation network. Building on this dialogue, the Group will further deepen its collaboration with Taiwan and accelerate the implementation of the circular economy.
